LGFP Annual Conference

17 - 20 November 2026 | Gold Coast

The Local Government Finance Professionals Annual Conference returns in November, bringing together finance leaders and professionals from councils across Queensland for four days of learning, collaboration and professional development.

This year’s theme, Strong Foundations, Smarter Futures, recognises the challenges currently facing the local government finance profession. High vacancy rates, increasing workloads and growing expectations from communities, elected members and other levels of government mean finance teams are being asked to deliver more than ever before.

At the same time, artificial intelligence, automation and emerging technologies are rapidly changing how we work. While these tools present exciting opportunities, they also reinforce an important truth: technology is only as effective as the people using it.

The strongest outcomes will continue to be achieved by finance professionals with deep technical knowledge, sound judgement, critical thinking and a genuine understanding of the local government environment. As the profession evolves, these foundations will enable councils to embrace new technologies with confidence, make smarter decisions and create lasting value for their communities.

The 2026 Conference will explore the issues shaping the future of local government finance while reinforcing the technical capability and skills that remain essential to the profession.

Whether you are an experienced executive, an emerging leader or building your career in local government finance, the LGFP Annual Conference provides an outstanding opportunity to expand your knowledge, connect with peers from across the state and return to your organisation with practical ideas and renewed inspiration.

I thoroughly enjoyed each and every presenter this year and it is difficult for me to narrow it down to just one thing. From another perspective however the opportunity to connect with peers, establish connections and share both information and experiences is invaluable.”
